   Modelling

Poser is a wonderful tool for setting up and rendering artworks. However, most Poser users are rarely aware that Poser is a modelling tool too! The modeling abilities of Poser, although somewhat basic, is still more than adequate for creating props like furniture items or - best of all - it can create complete architectural wonders to be used as background sets.

The list might include something as fancy as classical Greek temples to medieval castles.

So where is this modelling tool hidden within Poser? Well just boot up Poser and look in the Props section of the Poser library - you'll find a folder full of primitives like cubes, spheres, cones, cylinders etc. You might not see castles and temples in there - yet, but in this tutorial, I'll reveal the basics of working with them to create your very first fully textured 'bondage furniture' ;)

You could use this example as a starting point for learning how to model that classical temple you've always wanted for your fantasy artwork - and best of all, instead of using a high-end modeller like 3DS MAX, you'll be using just pain ol' Poser! :)

Lets get started, our aim here is to model a straight backed fully textured wooden chair with hitching points for tying naughty Victoria 3 to it :)

First of all, start with an empty Poser scene. Then, browse to your Props library and load a simple cube into your scene (picture below)

Next, use the yScale on the Parameter Dials to flatten it - this will form the base of the chair for Victoria to sit on.

Next, add in more cubes and scale them and move them around one by one to form the back of the chair, the legs of the chair - and several supporting crossbeams to give the chair a realistic and functional look (picture below)

Once completed, your chair will end up looking something like this:

You will notice that your chair isn't solid yet and is made up of seperate pieces that could be moved about independently. So how do you glue it together? Easy, just export the entire scene to your hard drive as a wavefront object. You could do this from Poser's top menu by selecting File>Export>Wavefront OBJ

Once completed, delete everything from your Poser scene till it's all empty and import the wavefront OBJ chair that you saved back into your scene - you will notice that all the chair parts are now glued together as one and you could manipulate this new chair like any normal prop.

The next step would be to texture this chair. Select it with your mouse and click on the square grouping tool. (picture below) Once the dialog box pops up, click on the 'New Group' button, folowed by the 'Add All' button and lastly the 'Assign Material' button. Name this new material 'WOOD' and close the Grouping Tool.

You will notice that your chair is now colored - lets texture it right away. Enter the Materials room and select the material 'WOOD' Then browse through your personal texture collection for a wooden texture similar to the one below:

Load this wooden texture onto the WOOD material of your chair and exit the Materials room. Render the scene and if you did everything correctly, you'll notice that your chair is now covered with this wooden texture :)

You can now save this new chair anywhere in your Props library to be used in your future artworks :)

I went a step further after texturing the wooden part of the chair - I added two torus props and moved it into the sides of the chair to work as hitching points for tying up Victoria ;) And using the Grouping tool, I assigned the two toruses the same material called 'METAL'

After saving and re-importing the chair again (using the method described perviously), the toruses are now welded to the chair and ready for texturing. I gave them a rusty metal texture and finally, I was able to use this new prop as a bondage chair for a pinup scene :) (picture below) The leg shackles in the scene are from the Victoria 3 Fetish Leg Shackles set - available now at the Planetvixens' Accessories section.

Now that we've covered the basics of modelling with Poser, you'll be able to put this knowledge to use in modelling more complex items like temples and castles for your artworks! :)
